September 1, 2008 - Hurricane Gustav Relief Misson - Tuesday, September 23, 2008

Shannin & Gustav victimThe NAPS team returned to Huntsville on Wednesday night from their relief mission.  Over 30 student volunteers responded to the needs of the people who were affected by Hurricane Gustav that blew its way through the Gulf Coast. We pulled out on September 1, 2008 and arrived in a small neighborhood in Baton Rouge, Louisiana that was severely affected by the winds of Gustav. With bow saws, chain saws, tree clippers, gloves, and helmets in hand, we marched through the neighborhood streets removing debris and fallen trees. While the men toiled in heavy labor, the women lifted the spirits of the people in song and hugs. There was one particular lady that I was privileged to meet who was moved to tears as we sung to her family. I know that the impact we as youth made not only on her life but to her family and other neighbors will go beyond words.
